Welcome to the seventh installment of the EVE Blog Banter, the monthly EVE Online blogging extravaganza created by CrazyKinux. The EVE Blog Banter involves an enthusiastic group of gaming bloggers, a common topic within the realm of EVE Online, and a week to post articles pertaining to the said topic. The resulting articles can either be short or quite extensive, either funny or dead serious, but are always a great fun to read! Any questions about the EVE Blog Banter should be directed here.
This month’s topic comes to us from CrazyKinux, and he asks: "What three things haven’t you done in EVE and why? Would you be willing to try one day? Why so? Why not?"
Earn ISK through industry: I've done several things so far to earn my ISK. Missions, exploration / cosmic anomalies, ratting, margin trading, courier contracts and of course piracy (loot sales & ransoms). But the odd bit of industry I do, which consists mostly of turning refined mission loot into ammo or build rigs, has always been to support myself. It is not something I could ever see myself do as a main activity. But if I get bored with any of the previous means it could form a nice variation. It never hurts to spread out your eggs over several baskets either. The major problem I see though would be that minerals would only come from refined loot as mining is not exactly something I enjoy or would be willing to train for. Maybe if the system gets a huge revamp someday and I am out of other things to train.
0.0 warfare: Very unlikely! Just like I lack the patience for mining, I also lack the patience for POS sieges or breaking my head over alliance politics. In fact I think I may opt for mining sooner than this. Nulsec roams I have dipped my toes into, and may be something on the menu again in the future, but I rather live in lowsec and be blinky red without having to worry about bubbles.
Fly capital ships: I am sure someday I will get them. But small ships and wolfpack gangs are what I like the most, so they wouldn't see all that much use. Having one for logistical purposes would be handy thought. And they do make for nice hangar decoration. But I rather spend the same amount of ISK on several smaller hulls and go out and lose them and learn something than sit around in one big ship. Not to mention that several different hulls make for a lot of versatility.

Through Industry you should be able to gather lots of funds to build or buy that Capital ship and fly it in nullsec space. A very worthy set of long-term goals.

I think industry can be a great way to make lots of money. I too have to get a bit more serious about it and see how far it can take me.
Mining is certainly boring. It's not for everyone, for sure. You need an alt, or a really good book. There are more exciting ways to make money and buy the minerals you need for sure.
I mentioned in my blog post that I'd love to do a huge 0.0 battle, but now that you mentioned alliance politics, I'm not sure. I've always been a lone wolf.
